Today’s Reflection

Abraham is one of those recorded in the scripture that are highly blessed by God. As part of the blessing of Abraham God entered into covenant with Abraham in the first reading of today ( Gen 17. 3-9)

It is a mouth watery and an envious covenant. This blessing was preceded by other blessings.

Gen 12. 2-3 God blessed Abraham thus: “ I will make you a great nation ….you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse, and in you all people of the earth will be blessed. “

In Gen 13. 15-16 He blessed him again Saying “ all the land you see I will give to you and your descendants forever. I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth.

There are things we need to learn from Abraham.

  1. He built an altar for God after the first blessing( Gen 12. 7). An alter was aimed at appreciating God and also for constant and continuous interaction with God
  2. He mediated in the dispute between his herdsmen and that of Lot. ( Gen 13)
  3. He welcomed and entertained strangers Angels of God. And interceded for Sodom( Gen 18)
  4. He was ready to sacrifice his only Son Isaac.

For Abraham blessings to be ours we need to follow the example of Abraham. We need to be in constant communication with God (built an altar of communication) intercede for others, play the role of a mediator and be ready to make sacrifice for others.

O Lord hear my prayer; let my cry for help come to you.
Do not hide your face from me when I am in trouble. Turn your ear to me: make haste to answer me when I call. ( Ps. 102. 1-3)
